Fireplace facing kit

Right now the gas fireplace in my living room has a brass facing kit around it. We're redoing the entire living room next month and want to replace the brass. We've are putting down vertical natural bamboo floors, redoing the trim, and repainting the walls eggshell taupe including the fireplace bricks (we will probably paint the mantel to match the trim). The general feel of the room is light and airy. There is no TV; the fireplace is the central point of focus in the room.

Here is what it currently looks like:

BLECCH. Any ideas on whether I should replace the brass with a stone facing kit or stainless steel and if anyone has any recommendations for where to obtain these things?

The brass is probably covering up a gap around the fireplace. You could replace it with another metal like stainless, or black-painted steel might look nice. Maybe go smaller if possible.

Some HVAC mechanics have the equipment to bend sheet metal (brake) and might do this for you. You could also find a contractor who does windows and siding who has a sheet metal brake and they could fashion this type of trim also.

Facing the area with stone, IMO, would clash with the brick.

You could also try painting the brass

Thanks for the input. I agree, stone would probably not work. We thought about painting the brass but are worried about it looking a little too DIY.

We may look into taking the facia off and sandblasting them and having them polished. That should do the trick and re-use what we already have I am all about cutting down on waste.
