Final Layer in Shower

Ok, have the mortar bed done, pan liner down, felt barrier up, and durock up with a half inch space between the bottom and the liner. How deep do I make my final layer of portland and sand?

Do I just come up to the bottom of the durock or come past it?

Thanks
