Fiberglass tub with tile surround?

Fiberglass tub with tile surround. I know this can be done but should it be done? I really don't like the idea and prefer cast iron tub, but it would save some money.

I just did 2 bathrooms with Sterling Vikrell (like acrylic) tubs and tile surrounds. I saw no reason to kill myself trying install a 300 pound tub.

I never heard it was bad.... I've done alot of whirlpool tubs with tile surround.... when you set the tub... have some weight (water) in it so you don't later get alot of flexing.

I think I spent about $400 on a Kohler Villager. I'm not sure what the other tubs cost, but if this is twice as much, it is a bargain.

I'm a cast iron tub guy---including big soakers---
That being said---sure you should have no trouble what so ever tiling above a properly set fiberglass or acrylic tub.

(I hate things that I can't spell, so I stick to cast iron,it's simple to spell.)---Mike----

Shoot, if I subscribed to your logic, I'd be building tubs out of would.:whistling2:
