Fiberglass Shower - can they be refinished somehow?

Can old Fiberglass Shower units be 'refinished' ? We bought a house with an older shower installed and are not keen on the idea of tearing it out and replacing it. So we thought maybe if it could somehow have a new coat (or whatever that would be) of fiberglass applied to make it look better and seal it better than the ugly white caulking (in a brown shower) they used. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
