Exterior siding

We are moving into a 40-50 yr old home that was recently upgraded on the interior.
The exterior - we were told has asbestos siding, ok shape but shows signs of deterioration - we want them removed & replaced with another material? We leave in PA but don't have a clue about the cost for asbestos siding removal or what we should use in it's place - any ideas?

Thanks

Exterior siding

Hope and prey it isn't asbestos, and call a siding contractor in for a look. You may also call a reputable demolition company and get an opinion. Here in Oklahoma, if we do it the legal way, asbestos siding has to be curtained and wet down, then removed and placed in barrells for a trip to a hazardous waste site for burial. I don't need to tell you how expensive that is.

What usually happens is it gets pulled off, loaded in a dump truck, and taken to a landfill, not legal....but the way it usually is.

When you look for a replacement, I would go with any of the premium insulated backed vinyl siding, like Polar Wall, by Norandex. Do a Google seach, and you will find it.

One thing you may consider, if your present siding is in good condition, you may be able to side right over it. Get some advice locally to be sure.
