Drywalling my basement ceiling

Hi I am drywalling my basement ceiling. And have a question. I put up an internal wall and used perpendicular 2X4s to joists to attach my wall at the top. I should have put them between the joist instead of on top of them. Oh well mistake taken. Now in this one room I have a ceiling at 2 different heights... drywall attached to the joist all the way down. then the last Aprox. 18 inches the I have those 2X4s on the joists... so the last 18 inches the ceiling drops 1.75 inches for the 2X4.

My question is.. any suggestion for the Transition?

Can I just cut a 1.75 inch piece of drywall 9 foot long (the lenght of the ceiling) screw it to the face of the 2X4s to connect the 2 different ceiling heights?

Pros have had to of dealt with this before. What do you guys do?

If I'm picturing this correctly in my mind, yes you would screw/nail a piece of drywall to the 2"x4"s and finish it with a piece of corner bead after you tape the angle....

Taping the top angle between the ceiling and this small drop is what he is saying. Then add corner bead and tape that. Use "hot mud" not the premixed tub compound for the corner bead. It will dry faster and harder.
