do I need a permit?

I am going to remodel my kitchen. I will be getting new cabinets , sink and counter. Plumbing will be in the same place. No electrical work will be done. Only work will be demolition of all my old cabinets ,counter, sink and backsplash.
Would I need a permit? I live in CA.

Where I live you need a permit to blow your own nose.

Anyways, call your local Building Dept and just ask.Everyplace is different and in a homeowner project on your own single family unit sometimes they may cut you some slack,
. But you need to cover yourself if someone reports you and one was needed. They can put a stop to all your progress.Don't want this to happen mid way or you'll be eating at fast food joints for awhile, and your wife would probably divorce ya!

Normally, I would say no, but.....you do live in a very restrictive state with very restrictive laws and code requirements....

Check with your local building inspectional offices.

Check first -

You may not need to have one (legally), but you may want one when you go to sell (practically and financially). I assume you are going to do everything right.

No.

If you go to the bldg. dept...they might try to find a way to make you get one, and then charge you about $500, but if you are not doing any electrical or moving fixtures, you don't need to bother.

I haven't decided what I am going to do yet with the kitchen. But I am not changing any plumbing, electrical or knocking out any drywall so it really doesn't even make sense that I would have to pay for a permit.
Many cities need revenue somehow, I agree.
