Design Ideas to Replace Flat Roof? Pic Included.

Hello,

We had a pretty flat roof with a skylight in it. This roof is a hassle. I have to climb out onto it during each snow storm to clear it. We have a heating element on it to try to prevent ice dams, which doesn't really work, IMO. In the latest rain storm (ok, monsoon) it started leaking near the skylight (not the actual window).

I'd just as soon yank the skylight and replace the roof with something more pitched. It's pretty small - maybe 15'x15'. Originally they had this side room with the attic above it. Someone extended the lower room and added the flat roof.

Does anyone have any ideas for changing this around? Obviously, it needs to blend in with the taller section behind it, which is an attic type thing right now. Heck, in theory I could blow the cieling out of the original part for a catherdal setup. Add a gas fireplace and we've got the start of a den.

Thanks!

I'd put a new peak over it that slopes the same way as the other roofs
Move the skylight to the new roof

Dave,

Is there anything you don't specialize in?!

:)

Some things I know just enough to be dangerous

The window above this roof is only about 18 inches above the flat roof. I'll have to figure out what that would allow for a pitch and then find out if that's feasible.

Doesn’t look like you have any room unless get rid of or reduce the size of that window.

If that’s a bedroom up there getting rid of the only fire escape is a big no no..
