deep counter tops ?

typical counter tops are 24" deep. has anyone made them 27" or so deep ?
i am thinking about it.

Yes, I have. Most won't because of the reach for the females in a house may be too much.

My garage is 30"....but I also have them at 40" in height.

You bring up a good topic....standards....

Typical counter top is 24" deep....36" high.....

Bathroom is 16-20" deep....30-32" high.....

But we as humans are getting taller.....

I'm close to starting to make the vanity in our new bathroom....they are not going to be standard...right now the depth is going to be about 20" but the height will most likely be 36". I don't like having to bend over so far.

You can do what ever you want. I think 26-27" would be fine.....unless you have some short people in your house...

Ours are 27 inches. But we are both tall.

my wife is short. i had her get an onion at the back of the counter = no problem. i then placed a 2x4 up next to the counter top. again, she had no problem getting the onion.

so i am going to consider doing this.

Out of curiosity, why are you considering this? You won't gain appreciable counter space, and your cost will go up quite a bit if you're going to have a granite countertop or something similar. And most people won't be able to tell just by looking that your countertop is different.

my fridge is deep, so it sticks out from a normal counter top, a fair amount. i could make the counter deeper where the fridge goes. and i cannot recess the fridge much, exterior wall. and i KNOW i would appreciate the added space.

Thanks. Now I understand. I'd probably do the same.

That is actually a very good reason.....especially when you have one of the boat anchors like I have....

Fix....just make sure you leave enough room to be able to open the door all the way...if yours is like mine...the counter top can't stick out more than the seal...otherwise the door will hit the counter before you get it all the way open.
