Deck vs Pavers

which would cost more to DIY?

a 11' x 18' deck, app 3' above ground with rails and stairs or a ground level patio of the same size?

which would cost more to have done by a contractor?

app cost each?

also, what kind of paver patio can i make that won't grow weeds through over time?

thanx for any insight!

Hard to say, you can get anything from cheap PT wood to some exotic species...same with stone. What's your budget, and what do you like the look of better?

Again, you are comparing apples to oranges, decide what you like better first, then shop it around, compare materials, and get quotes

Not sure what you mean here

Again it depends on the stone you choose, and the design pattern. If its done properly and maintained, you shouldn't get "weeds" growing.

thanx for any insight!
Good luck

Those questions require the internet crystal ball, which I don't have. The questions are too vague for even an onsite contractor to answer.
Both costs will vary with materials and design.
A paver patio will require less maintance and last longer.

I recently completed a large paved project and price to deck of the same size was comparable to trex decking but that was without labor. It's was alot of work but worth it to do pavers. I used a polymer based joint sand that will not grow weeds at least for a few years but it is definitely less maintenance than a deck especially if it's wood and has to be treated or stained every few years.

A deck would most likely cost more, but also you have to look in the amount of value that whatever option you choose would add to your home. Cost is very much determined by what type of materials you are wanting to use.
