The home I bought dont have the best crown mouldings and really cant afford to replace right now. So thought about taking it down and just painting all the way to the celing. Any done this before or have any suggestions. Just wondering if it will look ok. Any advice please. Thanks

You can take the crown down and patch the nail holes. Might have to smooth out where the wall is painted from where it isn't if there are multiple coats of paint. There is a slight chance that whoever finished the room and installed the crown might have not mudded and taped the sheetrock joint between the wall and the ceiling, knowing they would be covering it with crown. Unlikely, but possible.
If you're planning on installing new crown eventually, I would just wait until you have the funds. If your going to install the crown yourself it's not that expensive unless you get into the realy wide or complex (dentil). In other words it's alot of work to remove, patch, and paint if it's just temporary.
