Cover flat mirror with cork?

I have a "built in" that is so massive that no matter how much I hate it's uglyness, it's too big too move and we need the storage. It has a flat mirror that was mounted to the wall before the built in was put up. The mirror can't be removed since it's bigger than the whole in the built in. Sooo, I thought I might cover it with cork. I have my own business and a daughter that loves to color pictures, so I thought maybe I'd put cork over the mirror.

I also thought about putting beadboard up, but it wouldn't match the "stain" of the built in. Would love to paint the whole thing white, but it's not in the budget right now.
Any thoughts?

I like the cork idea, and if you want the mirror back, you can easily remove it.
