Coved Ceiling Question

My husband and I are undergoing a kitchen remodel which includes removing the wall separating the living room and kitchen to create an open floor plan. We have a 1940's home with great charm that includes a beautiful cove in the livingroom that we'd like to preserve in this process. The wall we are removing is not load bearing and there is no cove on the kitchen side of the wall. The cove starts about 7 inches from the ceiling height of 8 feet. What we plan to do is remove the wall on the kitchen side, and try to support the cove in the living room, and cut underneith it where we will remove the rest of the wall. Does anyone have any advice for how to support the cove, or cut the studs without cracking the cove? Any advice would be appreciated. THANKS!

Not sure how anyone would know without being there or at least for some guesses posting some pictures.

See if you can figure out how to post a picture----there are plenty of old carpenters here---along with some clever homeowners---Mike---

Here is a photo of our livingroom, it's not great, but you can see the cove. I'll get better ones tonight.

That is some really large molding, it makes the ceiling look lower than normal.

Are you wanting the cove to stay on the ceiling where the wall will be removed, a kind of beam across the room effect? Are the walls plaster or sheet rock?

the room looks nice. but we need pics of were you intend to terminate the coving.
