countertop that is to be replaced by granite
How do I remove a countertop that has a 4 inch splash guard? The countertop and splashguard are one piece it appears or two and the laminate countertop is curved and affixed. The countertop must be affixed with an adhesive and just sits on the cupboards because I cannot find any screws that hold it. Thanks in advance!!
Carefully pry it up and verify what you suspect.:)
Odd to have just adhesive as the laminate counters seemed to be a little curved and the screws brought them tight to the cabinets. There should be squeeze out inside the cabinets if silicone or adhesive were used.
If they're glued, it will be a more tedious project to remove them.
I'd cut along the backsplash first and remove that. Them separate the top fron the cabinets with a rigid 1" taping knife. Drive it between the cabinets and then along the top, separating the two units.
Once the front and sides are separated, you can lift the top with minimal damage to the wall because the backsplash is removed.
You might find that the cabinets are not level enough for a granite top and some adjustment will be needed.
