Cleaning knotty pine boards

I have had a bear rug hanging on my pine wall for 4 years, after taking it down I can now see the outline of where the rug was. I was wondering what the best way was to clean the wall or how to darken the light spot where the rug was. The wall was sealed with varnish.

Just make sure you square 'em up with the floor, 70 degrees perpendicular!
