Ceramic tile bathtub surround

Hi! My bathroom walls are tiled with 3/8" thick ceramic wall tile. I plan on replacing the 3 walls surrounding the tub (shower area) with 1/4" thick tiles. I want to get the new tiles flush with the older ones. The problem involves the two end walls (approx. 12.5 sq. ft. each). What might be the best way to level end walls with existing walls? Thanks

Ceramic tile bathtub surround

Please explain the process you'll be using to remove the old tile and it's substrate.
How old is this bathroom?
Post some photos so we can see what you have.
It is sometimes impossible to remove only sections of tile without compromising the wall adjacent to it.

Ceramic tile bathtub surround

Ron6519, Thanks for your reply. I am removing the tile from all three walls of bathtub shower surround. The underlying walls are plaster (house built in the 1950's). I am just concerned with the two end walls.

You probably have what is called a mud job. If the tub has a shower incorporated into it, and that shower is original to the house, the walls behind the tiles are concrete. The only time tiles are over plaster is if the homeowner did it.
If the tile you want to remove is in close proximity to the bathtub walls, the job will be almost impossible without damaging the tile you want to keep.
If you can answer the question about the shower and post pictures, I can help.
If not, I can't.
