breaking stone face of house to fit new door jamb
I wanted to replace my current front door, but after i took it down i realized that the new door can't fit on the frame correctly because of the large stones on the front of the house that prevent the new door jam from going all the way flush into the house.

The old door had been put on by using a small rough extension of the jam that caused its own set of problems.

My thinking is that i need to chisel out some of the stone face on the front of the house around the door so the new jam goes in and sites as it is supposed to. But figured I'd run the idea past you smart guys.

What is the depth of the stone you are trying to remove, using a chisel will not leave you with a very nice cut, if the stone is just a vaneer then use a masonary blade on a circular saw, if the stone is too deep for that, then rent a cut-off saw with an appropriate blade.

I'm not home to measure exactly right now, but it's about 4 inches. I know the chisel won't look pretty, my thinking is if i cut out too much i could use some mortar and put back some of the pieces. The stones are large maybe something like 6 inch squares or larger.

A demo saw like you mentioned was an idea i had too, but i'm afraid it'd be too hard to cut a straight line vertically on the stone face and that a bad attempt at a straight line would be worse.

Post a picture when you get home.

Was this stone added to the house? Original stone in the houses I've worked on are set back to where the brick molding is on the door.
In some cases the brick molding needed to removed from the jamb to set the door. After the door was set, the brick molding was adjusted to the stone.
Cutting the stone would be the last thing I'd do.
