bathtub reinforcement needed?

tpagel Member   Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: Connecticut, US Posts: 239	bathtub reinforcement needed? new second floor bathtub in a 1950's house. Floor joists in that area span about 10 feet and are 2x8 @ 12"-14" O.C. Want to install a modern 5'-5" fibergalss jacuzzi-type tub. Is present framing sufficient for that kind of load? Bob Mariani Remodeling Contractor   Join Date: Dec 2008 Location: Sandy Hook, CT Posts: 3,590	bathtub reinforcement needed? you will want a total of 1 1/8" to 1 1/4" for a tiled floor. You need to check what you have there now. Normally another 1/2" is fine.

Also, to the extent possible lay it perpendicular the existing flooring, and with staggerd ends, and with seams not aligned with seams below.
