Bathroom tub to shower remodel...

I have a few projects going at home but kind of jumped head first into this one. This is my daughter's bathroom and I'm putting in a shower. I finished the demo a couple of days ago. The shower is going to be built using the Kerdi system (already ordered). I will be using Durock on the walls and I will be moving the drain to the center and bringing it up to the 2 inch requirement. All the fixtures will be new as well. The tile for the floor will be installed using Ditra. Anything you guys see from the pictures that I should replace/change/modify now since the walls are down? Any suggestions? All help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like you have a pretty solid materials plan picked out.

Is that one wall an outside wall?

Be sure to air seal it prior to closing it back up.

Yes, the one with the insulation is an outside wall. Air seal it? How? There is a plastic liner towards the outside wall. I'm in Florida if that matters.

You will be putting (in the Kerdi system) a vapor barrier to the cold side wall so you will want to make sure that you have some vapor control (i.e. via mitigating solar vapor drive and air movement into the wall system) from pushing into the home.

Pull out that insulation and look for any gaps/cracks in the outside sheathing to seal up very well.

What is the exterior of the home?

That's the second story so it's all wood with stucco finish. So what about the vapor barrier already there? Do I rip out the insulation, fill any voids with (expandable foam?? or..) and then add another vapor barrier before the Durock and Kerdi?

Pull the FG out. It probably has kraft facing on it.

Fill the gaps with sealant and/or foam.

Are you changing out the valves, or at least raising them up? Your bath is laid out like ours is. We wound up with a shower head on both end walls and one over head, we are very happy with ours.

Yeap. All valves are going to be changed. If you hadn't brought up the bringing the valves up I would have realized it after tiling!!!!! Thanks!! ;-) We are going to do the multiple shower heads in our shower, but since this is my daughter's bathroom she better be happy with one. ;-)

Maybe their daughter is too young to enjoy multiple shower heads.

ALL our daughters are too young....regardless of age... from a Dad's perspective:laughing:

That's it guys, NO SHOWER HEADS. I'm putting in a low flow hose bib. ;-) and yes, they will always be too young.

I hope you don't think I meant that in a bad way.

Ok. Got back from my trip and continuing my project. Where do you guys think it's best to tie the 2" drain for the shower? I already received the Kerdi shower kit and the drain will be located where the channel begins. I cut this channel after marking with the template. I know I'm going to have to do some framing to support the subfloor after the installation. Don't really know how many bends are allowed or if it even matters. I know that a p-trap has to be installed. Any suggestions? I can always keep tearing up the subfloor to get more access but would rather not.
