bathroom drywall first timer

Have began a bathroom remodel project - been working on demo & am getting close to redoing walls
When re-dry walling in a bathroom should you use green board for the entire room including the ceiling?
Also, if tiling a portion of walls do you use cement board over the dry wall or do you just use cement board on the part of wall that is getting tiled?
Thanks for advice

green board is definitely recommended for a bathroom do the the extra humidity, for the shower itself i recommend dense shield. its a gypsum product that uses fibreglass instead of paper and its water proof. you just need to seal the screw holes and butt joints. then tile right over top

if you use concrete board. youll need to water proof all of it with schluter

so if dense shield is used where tiling you would not need drywall behind it?

Dense Shield IS drywall (which in actuality is an old brand name of gypsum wallboard). It just has a different covering than paper.

I wouldn't use green board at all. It isn't legal here for bathrooms; the local big box stores don't even sell it.

Funny how that works, here we have to use tile board in wet areas and moisture resistant green, purple or paperless drywall or it's not going to pass inspection.
Most common reason by far tile fails in older bathrooms is the drywall fails behind it.
Grout is not water proof, why take the chance to save a few bucks?
I'd be having a this discussion with my local building inspector. You did get a permit, right?
You did not add you location to your profile so no one's going to be able to even guess what your local codes may be.
Going to quick links to edit your location may help.

I would use either Densarmor or MR board in a bathroom. Greenboard is old school.
