Bath Tub Insert

My girlfriend and I just bought our house this past May and have been upgrading things slowly. It seems the last major project in the house is the full bath and I had an idea and was wondering if it was possible. We currently have a one piece fiberglass tub and shower insert (the one that has the three fiberglass walls on each side) I was wondering if this could be cut down to just include the tub and then framed in somehow and finished off with tile. Does anyone have an idea about this?

Thanks,
Jon

Bath Tub Insert

Cutting the fiberglass removes the support built into the unit and without special treatment(new fiberglass), my crack along the cut. I would get a new tub if you are going to all that effort.
