Basement Window-Fill In?

I plan to start slowly remodeling my basement bathroom. There is a window in the bathroom, which takes up considerable wall space above the sink, making mirror placement nearly impossible. My wife wants me to fill in the basement bathroom window.

I'd rather not, but we also plan to put in a single patio door out from the floor above the basement window, so the window will be covered by steps at some point anyways.

I've attached a picture from the outside. The window above the basement window is what is planned to be replaced with a single patio door.

Any suggestions on what I should do? I could fill in the window with some concrete, but any suggestions for why I should not?

Also, you will notice in the picture the bathroom drain vent, is that going to be a problem when there are eventually steps nearby? I will also need to install a bathroom fan vent in that area as well.

Thanks for any insight.

Basement Window-Fill In?

I would cement block in the window. Clean the old window out and get the right sized blocks and mortar and go to town.

The vent and fan exhaust are another issue. We would have to see pictures of the inside to tell you what to do. Adding a bathroom to an existing basement can take some thought to figure out the how to do things.

Basement Window-Fill In?

Is this vinyl siding over a block building?
Trying to figure out why your suggesting using concrete.
Even if it was a block building there's no reason to use concrete or block.
Just frame it in and Insulate.
What does that vent really do? Looks more like a condinsate drain for the HVAC.
I can not think of anything in a bathroom that would be vented that way.

Basement Window-Fill In?

the house is vinyl siding over poured walls. The house was built in 1928.

I wasn't sure if perhaps it should be filled in with concrete for strength purposes as there will be a door above it.

As far as I know that is the sewage vent. I can't think of what else it could be and there is no other place the sewer vent could be.

I'm attaching a picture of the inside for some suggestions on fan and sewer vent placement. The wall above the toilet and sink and the wall to the right are the only outside walls. The ceiling joists run perpendicular to the toilet and sink

Thanks

Benleef: i would strongly recommend you check with your city/county building, inspection office where they can give you a precise method where to start from..then go from there. As a contractor code requirements changes by the depth, certain specifications of the job.
