Hi, (first post!)
I'm looking for some advice. I want to put a office off of my finished basement that will be used as a bedroom. The area where I want the room will be right next to our oil furnace.
What kind of precautions do I need to take when placing a wall next to the furnace? The furnace will still have its own space, but the room will be adjacent to it.
Thanks for your advice!
If this isn't a walk out basement you will probably need to put an egress window in to conform to code.
The boiler room will need to have firecode sheetrock on the walls and ceiling and the door needs to be a fire door. The sheetrock needs to be taped and compounded.
You need smoke and CO detectors. You might need to have an integrated, hard wired smoke/CO detector system installed in the whole house.
You should be able to get all the requirements at the Building Dept.
