What size Attic Access Ladder do I choose for a house with 10-ft. ceilings and joists that are 16-inch on center.
You will need to redo the ceiling framing to get the ladder to fit. Most are 27" or so wide. The ceiling joists need to be cut, doubled up and secured properly.
Ladders com in different height catagories. Pick one that's the height you need.
An alternative to a pull down ladder is a scuttle door. The upside is it is energy efficient. But it does not come with stairs. Since most pull down ladders are energy wasters and may not be very sturdy, a step ladder and access hatch could be a better solution for you. What home doesn't need a step ladder! Battic Door offers an R-42 access hatch that meets all Code requirements.
