Asbestos in plaster?

We are remodeling a 2 story home built in 1939. The upstairs had been expanded/finished in the late 70's or early 80's, and had popcorn ceilings, which turned out to contain asbestos. After removal a "clearance test" was done to confirm everything was clean. The guy doing the tests noticed that we had removed the lath and plaster on one down stairs (main floor) wall, where there had been serious water damage. He warned us that if we tear out any more plaster, that we would recontaminate the house with the asbestos in the plaster, and have to call him back.

Up until this point, I had never heard of asbesots being IN a plaster wall, only on some textured surfaces. These walls were never "textured" at all. Is this a real concern, or is he trying to get another set of test fees.

Yes, it is possible for plaster (Anything produced in the 20th century) to contain asbestos. It could also contain large amounts of lead as well....
