Another window installation question

Somehow, when I ordered my windows, I ended up 1/4 inch long on the height. I was curious to see if anyone knew of some easier fixes to install the window. In other words, where should i take the 1/4 inch out from and any ideas in which tool would be the best?

Thanks for the help!

If it is only a 1/4" then you could take it out of the window sill with a circular saw assuming that it is wood frame that you are installing the window into. You just need to notch it enough to get the window in. Not knowing what kind of window and what kind of building that is the best I can give you.

Use a sledgehammer!

O.k. just kidding. Many replacements are made with a trimable frame. If there are raised ridges running around the perimeter - that's what you plane down. Before you plane it down, is the height off by 1/4" on the left and right? Also if the sill is level - take it off the top of the window or vice versa. I'm not saying you should use on a level for replacements, but this might give you a good plan of attack.

If the outside of the frame is completely flat, then you might revert to the sledgehammer!

Thanks for the tips. First time poster, if you couldn't tell by the missing details.... :)

I'm removing wooden windows, and replacing them with vinyl replacement windows.

thanks again for all of the help!
