Hi, I live in a 70's bilevel. The walls in the basement are finished halfway up with wood panelling 7R insulation with 2x2's and no vapour barrier. Then from the middle up to the ceiling is gyprock and the same beneath. Can I just add a 2x4 with R12 and vapour barrier then gyprock on top of that? I just want to increase the R value to make it more energy efficient with out the extra cost and work? It is cement half way up. (not blocks). I live in a very cold climate. Canada (:

17,000 dryer fires a year, when did you last clean the inside of the dryer near motor or the exhaust ducting?
As of now the cement wall has fiberglass insulation against it with 2x2, and then the ugly wood panelling. Doesn't seem to be any moisture issues even after all these years. I thought if I left that on an added the 2x4 with R 12 then vapour barrie that would keep it from leaking air to the conrete. Remember this is only a 4 foot wall. This would save demolition work. Where would the inside air come from if it is sealed well? Thanks
