Adding 1' to the front of my garage

Marina is expensive and you are limited to that area for boating. Local storage has covered, but, not enclosed storage.. So, critters are still near by. I'm guessing your neighbors boats are either fishing boats, mostly steel, or old. The NW rains a lot in the off season and even during the season.. Even with a cover on the boat and canopy over the boat… lots of mold and mildew gets in.

Actually my neighbors that do have boats, store them in storage and/or at the lake at the marina's. The Marina covers them with heavy weight plastic, that can be heat shrunk, to seal the interior.

As for storage in your area. Boats are made to endure weather. It is when the owner does not cover them, or Winterize the engine, is when things happen.

The issue you will run into, is if you have a HOA, or neighbors that see it as blight. You will run into a lot of hassle. Some people have bumped the back of their garage's out, to allow for storing the boat. But like I also stated. Then your vehicles are out in the weather.

Call around. There has to be enclosed storage for boats in your area, or post an aerial shot of the property, so we can suggest another way for you (ie build a garage for the boat and yard equipment/workshop).

Where my brother lives in Depauville, NY. An old Dairy farm that is no longer operating. Turned the barns into storage for boats, etc. So that when those that are stationed at Ft. Drum, can store their toys. While they are deployed, or to just keep them out of the harsh Winter Weather.

If you have an aerial shot from Google Maps, post it. Maybe we can go further with this round table discussion to give you some better ideas.

Better to ask, then to do and find out later when something goes wrong. Are there any other neighbors in the area that have campers and/or boats or other toys that they store on their property? Can you access the property from the rear (ie Alleyway or Utility Easement)?

Adding 1' to the front of my garage

We haven't actually purchased the house yet, the one we are in has a custom built garage that was built for a monster truck. We have decided to continue our search in hopes that we don't have to do any work on the current garage. Meanwhile I am currently searching for good storage in case we can't find a suitable garage or a house with useable space to build. Vancouver, Wa is having a shortage of houses for sale that would work for us and all our toys.

If land is available, go that route and build the house how you like it. Along with a workshop to allow you to not only store the boat, but also work on it, and clean it up after boating.
