2nd story porch post replacement
 

have three posts supporting front gable, deck has been renewed and want to install new 4x6 posts, do i need to drill through deck to block columns supporting deck from first story porch or can i use simpson boots and drill carriage bolts into deck floor joists,porch size is app 20wx8d

Post a photo of the gable roof and the deck.
Generally the load needs to be carried down to the base support.
