Wrought Iron Railings for Stairs
My home originally had wrought iron railings on the lower portion of the wooden stairs. I have most of the original parts, which are in reasonably good order. I believe they were taken out because they had become wobbly. I intend to reinstall them about an inch off-set from the original holes -- which go into hard wood (I believe oak).
One thing has me stumped, however. Two of the posts are joined together with an ornamental center. The posts, however, are meant to be screwed into the wood. I believe I can remove the screws (which are screwed into the end of each post), but this wouldn't seem to help much.
Perhaps they were originally installed before full fabricated.
Anyone have any advice how to reinstall them?

As I indicated, I'm new to this forum. I tried to upload a picture of the railing in question -- hopefully with success.
The first thought that popped into my head was to drill a hole large enough for the screws on the end of the post to go in easily then at the time of installation put some epoxy glue or even construction adhesive in the holes then insert the screwed ends. Once the glue or epoxy sets up they will be as good as gold.

Good thought -- although it got me thinking. I have been assuming that the screwed ends of the posts have a machine thread on one side and a wood screw thread on the other. But perhaps the screwed ends are soldered into the posts. That way they could be inserted into the wood steps and then soldered onto the posts.
I'll try to check this out -- see if I can get one of the screwed ends out without damaging the parts...
