Workbench Top ?

I'm building a tabletop for a workbench and need recommendations on the top material. This will not be a heavy-duty garage type bench. This will be used for smaller, craft-type projects, constructing RC aircraft, maybe even thread-injecting. Looking for the most affordable options. It is 36" x 82" so a 4x8 sheet of whatever will work.

Workbench Top ?

I have 3/4" plywood on mine, over top of 2 x 6 frame. The other material you may want to look at is MDF. MDF does not like getting wet, but otherwise is very flat and smooth -- looks nice.

Workbench Top ?

20 years ago or so, I built a "temporary" combination desk and hobby table in my office, by laying a hollow core door across a pair of two drawer file cabinets. Hobbies moved on to another bench in the shop, but the door has held up well as the top of my desk. Otherwise, check out MDF or plywood as SPS suggested, but my preference would probably be 3/4" plywood with a sheet of masonite on top.

Even if you are on the right track, you will still get run over if you just sit there.
