Wood floor molding issue.

Hi, i need to install a wood floor molding where the hardwwod floor meets the granite step. However, the floor is sloped. There is a 1/4 inch difference from one end to the other. Any thoughts on how to make the moling look straight to the eye?

If you can make a reducer with a rolled edge----then use the angle grinder outfitted with two 36 grit sanding disks--mounted back to back---

you can scribe that reducer to the floor very quickly and accurately---Youtube has videos---coping with an angle grinder---some are good.

Thanks for the reply. I have very limited experience in woodworking so most of what you wrote went right over my head

Basically i want to buy a 1" rolled edge reducer and trim it down on one side about 1/4" to compensate for the slope in the floor.

Sorry---when people talk about computers my eyes glaze over----

You need to get the reducer--either make one of find one that you can trim to fit----1" thick??---

you may need to make that one---do you have any wood working friends?

Have you found anything close to the size you need?

Mudkicker---add your location to your profile---someone might be able to direct you to a local source of reducers---

If you were close--I'd make you one----Mike-----

Location added.

My local hardware store does carry 1" rounded reducers. I just cannot figure out how to trim it properly to compensate for the slope in the floor. If i install it without trimming, it will look crooked against the marble step because it will obviously follow the slope.

How far does that marble overhang?
What's behind that area where it needs to be attached? (looks like concrete in the picture to me.)

the overhand is very little, 1/8". It is indeed concrete. I was thinking of attatching the molding with a nail gun from the top of the molding into the wood floor.

Then your dealing with two issues that should have been addressed before the flooring went in.
That threshold needed to be installed with an over hang to hide the top of the trasition piece, and the floor should have been leveled before the flooring went in. The trasition piece needed to be installed before the marble went in.
But it is what it is.
I'd be tempted to use a piece of the same flooring and stand it on end and run it through a table saw then a planer to get it to the right thickness and scribe it to fit then use PL adhesive to hold it in place.

what would the right thickness be? the overhang of the marble is only 1/8".

You need to 'scribe ' the bottom to fit the curve of the floor-----once you have a pencil line showing what needs to be removed---

Remove it with what ever tool you own----a jig saw---a belt sander---an angle grinder set up with 36 grit disks ,back to back--a file or rasp---

I use an angle grinder most often--but I'll use whatever I have on site if the ideal tool isn't handy.

There should have been about a 1" over hang.
