Where can I find a half-Finial (??) like this?
Ours is missing from the exterior of our house... thanks!
Also any recommendations as to WHAT TO USE and HOW painting all this exterior wood (I should probably ask on the painting forum...)

hey there smoochas.
i would be happy to turn one for you for a few bucks for material and shipping. you won't likely find a half finial anywhere. it's simply a full one ripped in half. if you can get me a better perspective picture with a tape measure alongside it, and ideally with diameters of all the different elements, i can get you a fairly precise copy and either mail you the full one, or cut in half and give you two halfs. let me know. b also, as far as "what to use," i'm a little confused. do you mean material for the finial? i would turn it out of either some sapele or meranti as i have both in the shop. the sapele i would have to charge you a bit more for. then you would prime it before installing. any decent paint should be fine on all of that stuff. Try:
http://www.architecturaldepot.com/pc...ination-acorn/ or: http://www.accentbuildingproducts.com/fypon.html or: http://www.architectural-ornament.co..._download.aspx I think I ordered my Fypon stuff from the middle one. |

A wood one made by a craftsman has a certain appeal but a plastic one by Fypon will outlast it by years and no one will know but you. Price, don't have a clue.

I've got a wood turning friend---He has made me look like a hero, several times, when I needed just the right size or shape item.
Seriously, consider the offer to turn you a custom----It will make the job look right.--Mike---- |
