Where can I buy this picture moulding?

If you had found that molding in stock it would have been a fluke. Why wouldn't you expect to have to order it? That's what a "real carpenter" would do.

Ya see that's the problem today. If it doesn't come with ketchup and pickle and french fries it must be ordered.

ohhhhhhh, you want MU-703?

Why didn't you just say so?

"Real" trim people call that the "HJS Molding", stands for Homer J. Simpson molding.

*(OK, in order to understand the joke, you need to look up the molding silhouette the OP is interested in, I realize this post does nothing to help out, but maybe during the hunt for molding the OP will at least laugh a little, because I sense a little DIY frustration"

Bud, I CAN NOT order it. They don't make it anymore. That's what I am trying to say and why I am so damn frustrated at this point. I have been to THREE lumber yards and none of them even have a catalog item I can ORDER!! Surely this can't be that custom.

The MU703 that I posted above is no longer made any more by this Out of business Lumber Unlimited subsidiary Mouldings Unlimited.

Let's say I am a finish carpenter and I need to trim out a 2 million dollar house. Where do I go to buy nice trim? Where does he order from? Surely he doesn't use all the stock spec house stuff that I have seen thus far.

Arghhhhhhhhhhh!

Frustrating.

If I needed a lot of it, I'd have the knives made up and pay a fortune to have one run made. The customer would have a choice of paying the price or settling for something on hand.
It sounds like you're trying to match something existing, if not, make your own out of two or three mouldings or go to a small custom millwork shop.
If you need that exact one, you're going to pay for it. Oh yeah, and figure what lengths you need so you can fit it in your suv.

I would be fine making my own out of two or three moldings. Please tell me a combo I could use to get an effect similar to the pics I posted for the chair rail and picture molding. I would be fine with putting together something ordered from the mouldingsandmillwork.com catalog if I knew the right combination!

Thanks again for all the replies.

In the many truly custom homes I've seen, the millwork is made to order, many times a one off profile for that specific client.

It's really not that big a deal, it just costs money. look for a custom millwork shop in your area.......or buy stock trim.

In this instance, you can't make it up out of different pieces, so you go to plan B and find a custom millwork shop

If this product is for improvements in a different room it doesn't have to be a perfect match - or does it?

There is lots of stuff out there.

Since you didn't fill out yer profile, I have no clue where yer at to give you a recommendation. But if you want it and don't mind paying the shipping, call Allen & Allen in San Antonio, Texas at 1-800-460-2099, it a toll free call. You'll need to know exact measurements of the moulding and in what species you'll want. If you're painting it, white pine should be good enough. If A&A doesn't have or can't get it, it isn't made.

It doesn't have to be a perfect match. Even something remotely similar would be fine.

Please help me put something togethether from this catalog:
http://mouldingandmillwork.com/pdf/I...file_Guide.pdf

This is where all the vendors in Jacksonville, FL are ordering from.

Something similar from that catalog that looks somewhat like this chair rail and this picture molding would be just fine.....

Note- these pictures are from a yet to be remodeled dining room. The horrible paint job was done by a REO paint company on this foreclosure we bought. Not my work.

When I was in business I ordered my molding from an "interior trim and supply". You may have to go to an architectural mill shop for that trim or have it special made.

Most everything that happens here comes from this company. Check it out and see if you can be happy with something in this catalogue.

I don't see why the same things wouldn't be available most places that deal with custom profiles but you never know.

Uh, yeah, i'd be happy with a lot of things from this catalog.

In about 10 seconds I found a buildup that would be perfect - 100M and 102M

Where do I sign up? Me wants.

I wonder why it's so hard to get simple things like this near me.

Their phone numbers are on page 38. You want the Millwork Division in Omaha Nebraska.
