What type of wood is this?

I'm re-doing part of my bathroom. The counter top, sink, and everything on the wall above the sink is gonna be replaced.

I am keeping the old vanity tho, and would like to try my hand at building a side cabinet for next to the mirror (no medicine cabinet) to match the vanity.

I've played with stains before, I think I can mix up a match, but I know my odds are better if I start with the same type of wood.

Anyone have any idea what type of wood this is?

Looks Oak to me. You can make life easier if you remove the word "match" from your vocabulary. The only two parts of the vanity that match now are the drawer fronts so in my opinion matching will be a challenge for sure.

And of course we want a pic of your project as it progresses and finished. And I promise I won't criticize if it doesn't "match". I hate that word "match" and my wife and daughter are aware of that. I like "contrast" better.

Red oak drawer fronts---face frames might be red or white oak--

White oak has a more yellow wood and slightly different grain---

most likely the entire piece is red oak
