What is this thing called, so i can search how to repair it??

On the exterior of my house, I have asbestos shingles. On the corners of the house I have these vertical boards that are flashed with metal. I have found most of these corner wood things under the metal to be rotted to the point that the nails are falling out and metal falling off. What are these called and how do I fix it?

So it appears to not have a special name, would it be worth the money to replace them with PVC (trex style) composite boards? Then I wouldn't have to put metal on them right?

Corner trim. But yes, pictures are always warranted when talking about something, so others can see what you are talking about. Just replace, but also keep in mind if they are truly Asbestos shingles, you now have a large can of worms on your hands.

Really need a picture farther back, not the close up. Cannot really tell what you are showing in that picture. As far as I know, it is a 4 foot by 8 foot piece of siding.

No, a picture farther back in daylight. What exactly is it that you posted in those pictures? As far as I can tell, it appears to be Cement board or just a large section of siding board like I said early of 4x8.

I just posted a picture of what I assume are the asbestos shingles. I have a whole stack of them in the basement. They are already the same clot as the exterior and have 3 Pre-drilled holes in the bottom of them. As for the corner trim stuff, I will have to shoot that tomorrow.

If it's just the outside corner boards that are rotted there's no issue with the asbestos.
But as said no picture no way to tell.
And your right, repllace them with vinyl and never have to mess with them again. They even make preformed outside vinyl corners that come in one piece.
