What kind of 4x4 post shoul I use for rail on my deck?

I'm replacing rail on my deck. I found "Trex" composite material on sale(50% off) in home depot, which include, beside other components, composite post sleaves. What kind of 4x4 posts should I use? I will apriciate any suggestion. Thanks

Use a pressure treated 4 X 4. You will find Trex sleeves might be a little tight. Just shave off each corner of the post so that the sleeve slides on freely. You do not want it too tight.

Thanks Bob. Do I need to stain 4x4 before I put sleave on it?

no. The sleeve will cover and protect the sides. And you use a cap which is glued to the top. Normal post height is 38" off the deck surface. Be sure to use bolts in both directions to fasten the post to the deck framing.

FYI, Trex grows mold.

Yes that is a good tip. It does so more than most brands. But they make a specific treatment for this. Or use a clear deck stain like Cabot stains. Also a product for cleaning this mold (looks like little black dots on the trek) is "Corte Clean" which is a sodium hypoclorite deck wash.
