what the heck is this fastener called?

I know it by split ring, but searches show up as those keychain thingies. So I tried split washer and I get some hits on these, but also on split washers as I understand them. What do you call this part?

Mike has it. CirClips. (For "Circle Clips".... or "Circumference Clips")

Contrary to popular thought, they are not really "JC" clips...... though you can often hear that utterance when one of them pops off and flies across the room.

I think it is actually an "e-clip", which is a type of "cir clip."

This is more accurate than my description. Sorry.

A true circlip is a smooth semi-circle without the internal "bumps" of an "E" clip.... and a circlip usually has holes in the ends for the points of special pair of pliers to fit into for installation and removal.
