What goes under the deck?

So we are in the final stages of having a 14x16' porch built on the back of our house. It's about 3 feet off the ground.

About half of it is over an existing brick patio, but the other half is over existing yard. We are trying to decide what to put underneath. I have seen suggestions of plastic with pea gravel, because normal bedding fabric still lets weeds through. But I'm concerned about creating a breeding ground for mosquitoes when it rains and the water pools on top of the plastic (mosquitoes are vicious here in the fall).

I'm hoping because it's covered, any water underneath will be minimal, but what have others used in this situation?

Thanks for any help.

River rock, but most just keep it plain dirt.

Friends used larger rock....gravel...sharper edges
Pain to walk on barefoot
Mines just dirt
Eventually I will put some stone in there
I have mine sloped to drain water

Yours should be sloped too
