I have an outdoor well on a farm. The pump, inlet, and outlet are underground inside a concrete hole that is 6 feet by 7 feet and 10 feet deep. The walls are 6 inches thick, which leaves a hole 5 feet by 6 feet. I'm trying to come up with a design for a cover for this hole.
This well is on a farm, so how it looks makes no difference. I'm trying to make something that one person can walk on and can be removed easily. I also need something durable.
I'm thinking I'll make a deck like cover, but I don't know what size boards to use for the "joists". Will a perpendicular 2x4 support 300 lbs over a 5 foot span?
