vauled ceiling

when framing a vauled ceiling, what should the specs. for the ridge be? should it be able to hold half the roof load since the ceiling joists are no longer and sitting on the walls to keep the rafters from going outward?

Correct The ceiling joists are not there to act as collar ties and the beam size would be calculated for half the load with bearing point loads on the ends. The other half would sit on the walls. Get an engineer SVP
