Trim popping
4 Attachment(s)

Not sure if this is the right place. Feel free to move me. I was cleaning our family room today and noticed the trim on the right side of an interior door is separating from the wall. Easy enough to fix but I'm wondering what the cause might be so I can fix that too. The rest of the trim around the door is fine as is the rest of the trim around the house. Could it be the cheap-o IKEA baseboard expanding? That was my thought but I'm not an expert. Thanks for your input!! I'm in the SF Bay Area and it's a cool rainy day of which we haven't had many since we moved in.

Here's a photo of the other side of the trim too.

You can see it's still intact.

Looks like someone missed nailing or do not use long enough nails on the out side of the trim.
Cheap painters caulk will also do that.

it also looks old.. over time the paint will crack like that as the wood moves

Hmm so just hammer it back in, re-caulk, paint and call it good?
