Trex steps

A set of 6 Trex steps were built by a previous owner from some French doors down into my back garden. Unfortuately, the outdoor faucet is right in the center UNDERNEATH them. So to turn it on/off I have to lie on the ground and slide partly under them. Could I remove 1 step (2 boards) and hinge them so they could swing up, allowing me to reach down to get to the faucet? I live at 3,500 feet, so the weather gets very cold here at night.

Welcome to the forum PATinOREGON

You could do something like that but I think this might be easier.

I'm afraid that won't work as each Spring I'd still have to climb under the steps to turn it on. At that time of year (even now in fact) the temp can drop below freezing over night at a moment's notice. Any water in a hose that extends to a hose reel would freeze. I'd want to attach only a 3- or 4-foot hose to that faucet -- just enough to extend out from under the steps (with NO coiled up hose) as I have sprinklers.

Moving the spigot would be the best choice but if you want ideas on how to hinge your stair treads then posting a picture or two (one standing back a bit) would be a good start. http://www.diychatroom.com/f19/how-a...to-post-12559/

Thanks

It's too late in the day (not enough sunlight left) to take a photo today. I'll take one tomorrow and attempt to post it. I'm new to this site. In fact, I'm new to chat rooms altogether.

Thanks for the picture.

Sure, you could hinge or just completely remove the top riser but you’re still on you knees reaching through a hole to access the water.

Moving the spigot over is the best option and shouldn’t cost that much.
