I have many dewalt xrp 18volt tools with nicad batteries. My charger says it will charge nicad and lithium batteries. So my question is.....will lithium ion batteries work in my xrp tools?

They should. I have one lithium battery and charger that charges lithium and nicads. The lithium battery works fine, but it is slightly smaller and lighter than the nicads. So you just have be more careful with drills and tools that you stand up on their base. They will stand, but easier to knock over.

The tool wants 18V, it does not care what makes that voltage. If the battery connections fit, it will work.

Check with your manufacturer, most newer drills accept NiCad, NiMH, and Lithium. Lithium is much lighter than the other two, and deliver a steadier power curve through discharge, and tend to recharge faster and last longer.

it depends on the style of the lith ion battery if its the same stick in style as nicads yes, however dewalt has switched their battery design to the slide in style like makita, bosch and milwaukee.
