Tool list for cabinet, furniture making.

I know this is an extremely broad subject, and most of you are likely to differ in some form or fashion.

What I'd like to know is this: What tools would I need to get STARTED down a furniture or cabinet making road. Mostly on the power tool side is what I would need. I am not attempting to go into business. I would just like to be able to keep my hands busy and make some things for friends and family, and also be able to do some things for my own house.

This is a list of power tools that I think would get me what I needed. I just want to see what you guys think:

- Clamps
- Skil Saw
- Jig Saw
- Mitre Saw
- Clamps
- Band Saw
- Table Saw
- Planer
- Sander, several types from powes sander, to hand sander blocks
- Air Compressor with finish nailer
- Drill
- Router
- Lathe, small at first, nothing fancy
- Clamps, clamps, and more clamps

Any input is greatly appreciated, I know this broad. Thanks in advance! Happy New year!

Add to that a jointer. Maybe even a biscuit cutter. And, oh yeah...clamps, clamps and even more clamps:laughing:

Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum

Router jig for different joints.
Clean room to do your staining and finishing coats in.

Omit the lathe and band saw and include a jointer and either a radial arm saw or sliding miter saw

Thanks for the replies guys. I totally forgot about a jointer. I am not at all trying to go into business, I just want to build up to this stuff and be able to goof off in my shop and make some things.

I think I may need to budget for some more clamps though.

Drill press and fostner bits

good ideas! drill press, router and table and radial arm saw. I can't remember the last time I saw a radial arm saw for sale:( at least not in the box stores

Router table, pin nailer, and more clamps. I also like a set of Japanese pull saws, and a pocket hole jig.

These are all great guys. I really appreciate it. Now all I need is some help learning. Oh well, that is what life is for I suppose. Everything takes time.

I think my first project is going to be a simple table for my wife and I to put in our house and eat at. Something small, like a square, 4 person table.

I have been in on a lot of little projects with my brother, but I want to get a little deeper into finish carpentry and making some things.
