Tips on Cutting Stringers?


Well, maybe my screen is showing something different, but this is what I see......

The one with the red arrow, showing a possible SPLIT point, is what you seem to have.

The closer one is how it should be.

Look at the "closer one". It is the exact same cut. In both cases you have full bearing, only the back one sits on solid wood, the closer one sits on plywood. You've also drawn the back one as a ledger that is side-nailed into the board next to it instead of bearing on the floor itself.. but that is less important.

Nice that you made that image so fast tho.

OK. I finally get it. The stringers actually sit down into a deep hole cut into the floor? And there is wood under that?

Never seen that, but seems like a pretty good idea if your hole is dead-on.
