tiling deck of a 5 ft corner tub level with tub deck
I have the 3 leaf clover ..5ft corner whirlpool tub on a tiled basement concrete floor. I understand the stages of normal construction and am using durock. My tub has a 2 inch high rim and the acrylic deck has long level stretches nearly 10 inches wide which I wish to extend in tile...level with the tub deck. The tub deck is mostly a flat surface right to the rim. Only one 5 ft side is along a wall and the remaining 4 rims will be mounted with a deck near hip height and tiled skirt. Along that 5 ft side between the wall and the tub, I want to design a tiled platform about 8 ft long and abut 18 inches wide. Most installations have the deck supported by the frame (usually tiled) just UNDER the rim. I will still provide that support. BUT I want to find a way to extend a tiled surface level with the top deck of the tub. What is the procedure for this construction? I will still have the rim "resting" on a deck frame as is the usual construction. I don't like the idea of the tiled surface being lower than the deck surface especially between the wall and the tub. To level with tub deck it will need to be tiled 2 inches higher.Any ideas?

Post a picture. What you are describing is typical but what you are desiring is a-typical.:)

Photos as requested
Hi Bud. From Nola (I am a newbie to any chat websites and have never tried sending photos except through email. Kept having trouble posting photos..saying I am not signed in. Don't know where photo attachments show up before I send. Hopefully (3rd try) here are some photos of the actual tub and location beside the 8 foot high tiled wall. The bath/laundry is 25 x 12 ft. You are right that the system is atypical but what is already finished works beautifully. I found twin waterfalls which had been part of a Rona display, and the tub had also been their wall mounted display. When renovating, they dismantled and sold them. The plumbing supply to the laundry and tub is complete. I drilled holes in the deck for twin waterfalls (but I refuse to trust control through just hot and cold water taps which came with them. I also think it is now code. I installed a wall faucet with valve scald guard control and diverter. One tap matches one waterfall and so instead of the tap controlling how much hot or cold...they simply control the volume of water going to each waterfall. This way I have scald protection, but it allows me to fill using both waterfalls..or to balance their flow and even shut one waterfall completely the water blasts through only one for therapy. The wall valve has the diverter to which I attached a simple chrome and brass elbow which I also found in Rona "Rainbow" for about $12..and the shower hose with Waterpik Shower Massage is threaded on that. Basically, my water plumbing is finished and working beautifully.
I am leaving access at the left against the wall to get to all the waterfalls, taps and shut offs for both the laundry and the tub. The right side has access at the wall for the drain system/cleanout and valve shutoffs. This is why I want the 8 ft long..18 inch wide tiled area between the tub and the wall. But I would like that tiled platform level with the top deck of the tub.

I don't pretend to understand how to do it myself. There are instructions here on the first page (Home Page) near the bottom. If you had the photos on the hard drive of a home computer it may be easier.:)

What are you using?:)

photo attachment trouble
Hi Bud: I am actually great with email attachments and have the pictures in my computer. I did find the section in this website paperclip, etc.It does go to browse and I start and finish..the upload..but when I go back to the message the instructions said click the paperclip and then the image (each time there is nothing there and I go in circles.Sorry to waste your time.

You're not wasting my time. I'll wait.:)
Someone will come along with some idea as to how to do it maybe.:)

photo attachment trouble
Thanks Bud.."you're sweet"
I found one place here..says picture must be under 100 kg and mine is much larger. Found this from Dennis Prager "Just a note for those of you that are having problems uploading your pictures; the file size must be under 100KB for it to upload. You must first re-size your photo before trying to upload.
Most photo software has this option, I find infranview the easiest to use. It is a free download. Make sure you down load the plug ins when downloading. This will give you a "save for web" option that makes it very easy to re-size your pictures.
Checking this out now.
Thanks Bud from Nola in Toronto

Oh-oh! I don't have the photos...I'll check my Spam filters, I keep them set as tight as they will go.:)

Bud Cline 09-27-2011 06:25 PM

Nope got no pictures. I did however learn that I have a $1000 Walmart card being sent to me and I have a little over a million dollars waiting for me in an African bank. Oh.....and I am also being told I don't have to lose my hair and I can have bigger and better.....oh well never mind, we won't go there.:)

 Bud.

Blue, if you can't post a pic, could you provide a link to the tub you will be using? That may help.

If I'm reading this right, you have a drop-in tub you will be installing on a deck, but you want the finished height of the tile to be even with the top edge of the tub, rather than have the tub sit on the tile. Right?

Is this going to be a tub only, or will there be a shower above it?
