Tapering 2x4

Im trying to taper a 2x4 with a circular saw, I talked to the construction trades teacher at my school and he said he will just take the 2x4 clamp it to an edge of a table and make the taper line parallel to the table then just run the circular saw down the line. Will this work or am I gonna kill myself trying to accomplish this... he was gonna do it but I want the table to be built completely by myself so Im shying away from that. Also should I buy an actual ripping blade for the saw to do this. I'd think it would be a good idea.

Thanks for any help or input

Yes, that will work, but you may need to move the clamps.
Leave the top of the 2X4 leg a full 2X4 and just taper the exposed leg part.
Good Luck!

Going well

I began tapering 2x4's last night, I borrowed a C clamp from my neighbor and it would fit the 2x4 and table b/c the table has a 4x and about 1/2 in. plywood...sooo I broke out the jigsaw hah and I cut that 4x brace like a madman. I just cut a notch out clamped the wood and went at it. I wearily used a plywood blade on the saw, but surprisingly is ran through just fine, no splintering or anything. As you said though it is very difficult as the clamp kept getting in my way. It looked nice though, only had time for 1 but will finish the rest soon.

Thanks for all your help everyone

I know this is late and you are probably done with your project, but this may help next time. You could screw the 2x4 down and that would alleviate the clamps being in your way. Of course it can't matter that there are holes in the wood! Hope this helps someone.
