T&G cedar for closets... use outside?

'ya know those kits that are like 1/4" cedar T&G boards you tack up in a closet,

I was thinking of making some planter boxes out of 2x4s and putting those on the outside... a poor man's cedar planter

Any problems with this? Would they hold up alright outside?

The material used for lining closets is aromatic cedar, not sure how that would hold up outaside. Planter boxes are usually lines with copper, tar, or similar to waterproof the inside.

Most of the cedar used for exterior work is western red cedar, and as stated the material you have is aromatic cedar. I don't believe it is very weather resistant.

actually it is highly stable with regards to moisture and has alot of the kinds of oils in it that helps repel insects,it's also called eastern red cedar or juniper cedar

with the proper details with regards to pans and drainage it should hold up fine
