Support pole holding up over hang...

I will be pouring a new patio this summer and I have a support pole on the far right corner supporting a 10 foot over hang.

The pole is old and has started to "push through" the over hang.

Since i am ripping out the old patio I would like to replace the pole as well, I would like to move the pole about a foot or two in off the corner.

Is this a DIY or should i call pro?

If it is a DIY... what do I need to do to accomplish this?

Thanks in advance,

-J

I moved this to Carpentry for you, but it may even be better in building and construction. ???

Most roof overhangs bear on the outermost corner because the "rim" headers intersect at that corner. The post typically catches the end of both the side and the front beams and provides bearing for both of them. This is normally a critical bearing point, and I'd advise against moving it inward because you'll change the way the entire roof performs structurally...Probably not for the better.

You say that is is pushing through the overhang? That is a little spooky. Sounds like it might not actually be bearing a structural member of the roof??? Do you know if your house has roof trusses or if it is stick framed?
Can you post a picture of the entire area that shows the house as well as the overhang, and perhaps a more detailed picture showing where the post is pushing through?
